WRITE! AFRICA WRITE!

This was the slogan I devised for the HSBC/SA PEN Literary Award series. AFRICAN COMPASS appeared in 2005 and AFRICAN ROAD in 2006. The next volume will appear in 2007 entitled AFRICAN (SOMETHING). The actual word will be taken from an award winning short-story yet to be submitted for NEW WRITING FROM SOUTHERN AFRICA 2007. COMPASS was the title of Sulliman Farhad Khoyratti’s winning story in 2005, THE ROAD TO REPHILE was the title of Sean O Toole’s award winning story in 2006.  

I now wish to claim this slogan for myself. I am an African writer, a long standing member of South African PEN and now its President. I should myself heed what I say on behalf of PEN. Write! Africa Write! Draw! Antonio Draw!
